Power Locks

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 RAM 3500 HD and 2013 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The power door lock system allows the doors, ram boxes, and tailgate to be locked/unlocked electrically in three ways: (1) interior door lock/unlock switches on the front door armrests, (2) FOBIK/RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) system switches, or (3) Keyless Enter-N-Go™ (Passive Entry). All the door locks, including ram box and tailgate are powered by output drivers in the Body Control Module (BCM). Inputs for the lock system can come from the interior lock/unlock switches, RKE FOBIK switches, or the Passive Entry outside door handle switches. The output BCM drivers a provides a battery voltage to the door lock motor for a specified time to lock/unlock the door. There are two door modules, the Driver Door Module (DDM) and Passenger Door Module (PDM) which transmit the interior lock/unlock switch state to the BCM over the vehicle CAN bus. The door modules have an unswitched battery feed from the Body Control Module (BCM), so the locks can be actuated in any ignition switch position.

The BCM locks the doors automatically when the vehicle is driven beyond the speed of 25.7 km/h (15 mph), all doors are closed and the accelerator pedal is depressed. The rolling door lock feature can be disabled by the customer if desired.

This vehicle also offers several other customer programmable features, which allows the selection of several optional electronic features to suit individual preferences.

Keyless Enter-N-Go™ (Passive Entry)  - The Passive Entry system is an enhancement to the vehicle's Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system and a feature of Keyless Enter-N-Go™. This feature allows you to lock and unlock the vehicle's door(s) by pressing a switch on the outside door handle to lock, or by grabbing and touching the backside surface of the outside door handle to unlock.

Certain functions and features of the power lock system rely upon resources shared with other electronic modules in the vehicle over the CAN data bus network. For proper diagnosis of these electronic modules or of the CAN data bus network, the use of a scan tool and the appropriate diagnostic information are required.
