Cover, Differential: Installation: Installation

  1. Remove RTV from cover and housing carefully so the mating surfaces are not damaged.
  2. Apply a 6.35mm (1/4 in.) bead of orange Mopar™ Axle RTV Sealant (1) to the cover (2) with the bead to the inner side of the bolt holes.
    NOTE:

    Using other RTV'S could cause a leak.

    CAUTION:

    If housing cover is not installed within 3 to 5 minutes, the cover must be cleaned and new RTV applied. Failure to follow these instructions will result in a leak.

  3. Install cover and tighten cover bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 44 N.m (32 ft. lbs.).

  4. Install drain plug (2) and tighten to 70 N.m (52 Ft. Lbs.).
  5. Remove fill plug (1).
  6. Fill differential with lubricant to specifications. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Install fill plug (1) and tighten to 70 N.m (52 Ft. Lbs.).
