Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 RAM 1500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. UNLOAD VEHICLE OF ANY EXCESSIVE CARGO (OR DISCONNECT TRAILER IF APPLICABLE)
    1. Remove any excess load on the vehicle such as a trailer or heavy cargo.
NOTE: Any load that exceeds Recommended Cargo or Trailer weight limits.
    2. Once Cargo has been unloaded, erase all DTCs using the Scan Tool.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. Using the Scan Tool, perform the "Component Air Mass/Pressure/Ride Height Readings" routine.
    6. Once the Routine has completed, Choose "CLOSE", not "CONTINUE".
NOTE: This will cause ASCM to exit "IN-PLANT MODE" and trigger a load measurement.
    7. Drive the vehicle above 25 mph (40 kph) for at least two minutes.
    8. With the scan tool, read the DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes

      • Go to  2.

      No

  2. CALIBRATE THE RIDE HEIGHT SENSORS
NOTE: Prior to Calibration, ensure the following:
    • No other active DTCs.
    • Vehicle is on flat, level surface. (no slope)
    • Values to be inputted via Scan Tool are correct
    • Ride Height Sensor are correctly installed.
    1. Calibrate the ride height sensors in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SENSOR, HEIGHT .
    2. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    3. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. Drive the vehicle above 25 mph (40 kph) for at least two minutes.
    6. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes

      • Go to  3.

      No

  3. CHECK AIR SUSPENSION AND AIR LINES FOR LEAKS AND KINKS, SUSPENSION FOR RESTRICTIONS
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Raise vehicle using "Set Ride Height Level" routine in the Scan Tool.
    3. While Scan Tool is running routine, evaluate the change in ride heights while vehicle is raising.
    4. Note if any corner is slower to adjust than the others.
    5. Turn the ignition off.
    6. Inspect the underbody and chassis locations for restrictions/debris that would cause a suspension not to reach the limits of travel up and down.
NOTE: Examples of restrictions and debris that restrict raising/lowering
      • Packed snow/ice
      • Sand/socks
      • Dirt/mud
    7. Inspect the Air Suspension air lines for kinks or leaks. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
    8. Repair or correct any issues found.
    9. Using the Scan Tool, perform the "Component Air Mass/Pressure/Ride Height Readings"
    10. Once the Routine has completed, Choose "CLOSE", not "CONTINUE".
NOTE: This will cause ASCM to exit "IN-PLANT MODE" and trigger a load measurement.
    11. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Is the DTC still active?

      No

      Yes

      • Go to  4.
  4. CHECK RIDE HEIGHT SENSOR AND RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS FOR DAMAGE, BENT PINS, AND ANY OTHER ISSUES
    1. Disconnect the ASCM Module harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect Ride Height sensor connectors for the following conditions:
      • Damaged or bent Linkage.
      • Proper Sensor Mounting.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Any crushed or damaged wiring.

Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

Repair any conditions that are found.

    6. Connect the ASCM harness connectors. Be certain that the harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. Connect the related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    9. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    10. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    11. Set vehicle to "OFF ROAD (2)", wait one minute then set the vehicle to "NORMAL".
    12. Drive the vehicle above 25 mph (40 kph) for at least two minutes.
    13. Using the Scan Tool, perform the "Component Air Mass/Pressure/Ride Height Readings"
    14. Once the Routine has completed, Choose "CLOSE", not "CONTINUE"
