Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Camera is activated when the ignition switch is in the RUN position. The Fused Run Relay Output Circuit supplies power to the camera. The camera sends a video signal (std. NTSC i.e. TV) to the Radio Receiver Module (RRM), using camera signal, signal return and camera shield circuits, which display on the RRM screen. The screen toggles functions displaying only one kind of image at a time. And in reverse, the rear camera has priority. The ground circuit is for the system.

NOTE:

Before performing tests it is important to check the vehicle sales codes or build configuration to verify if the Tailgate Camera or the optional Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) Camera supplies the image displayed on the RRM screen.
