Gearshift Adjustment Procedure

  1. Shift transmission into PARK.
  2. Raise vehicle.
  3. Disengage the cable from the transmission manual shift lever (3). Disconnect gearshift cable from transmission manual valve lever by fully depressing pin until it locks into the release position. Remove cable end by moving upward.
  4. Verify the transmission manual shift lever (3) is in the PARK detent by moving lever fully rearward. Last rearward detent is PARK position.
  5. Verify positive engagement of transmission park lock by attempting to rotate propeller shaft. Shaft will not rotate when park lock is engaged.

  6. Disengage shift cable adjustment lock clip (1) by pushing up rom the back side of the lock clip.
  7. Adjust the spring loaded shifter cable end (2), by pushing in or out to change the length until shift cable eyelet fits over the manual shift lever stud, then push the lock clip (1) down until fully engaged.
  8. Position the shift cable end over the manual shift lever ball stud and push downward until locking pin snaps outward.
  9. Lower vehicle.
  10. Check engine starting. Engine should start only in PARK and NEUTRAL.
