Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- With the scan tool, actuate the SRV Solenoid Control State.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE (F342) ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Short Runner Valve Assembly harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, actuate the Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay Control State.
- Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (F342) ASD Relay Output circuit in the Short Runner Valve Assembly harness connector.NOTE:
The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Is the test light illuminated and bright?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (F342) ASD Relay Output circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (Z903) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (Z903) Ground circuit in the Short Runner Valve Assembly harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (Z903) Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (K238) SRV CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.CAUTION:
Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis.
- Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic).
- Measure the resistance of the (K238) SRV control circuit between the Short Runner Valve Assembly harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the (K238) SRV Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- CHECK THE (K237) SRV SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (K237) SRV signal circuit between the Short Runner Valve Assembly harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Repair the (K237) SRV signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (K237) SRV signal circuit between the Short Runner Valve Assembly harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor.
- CHECK THE SHORT RUNNER VALVE ASSEMBLY FOR PROPER OPERATION
- Connect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, actuate the SRV Solenoid Control State to toggle.
- Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (K238) SRV control circuit in the Short Runner Valve Assembly harness connector.NOTE:
If the DTC is active, the actuation test may not be allowed by the PCM. It may be necessary to clear the DTCs before starting the actuation.
NOTE:The test light should illuminate on and off with the actuation.
Does the test light illuminate on and off with the actuation?
Yes
- Replace the Short Runner Valve Assembly in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 7
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Connect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
