Retainer, Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal: Removal

- Disconnect and isolate both of the negative battery cables.
- Remove the transmission adapter plate. Refer to PLATE, TRANSMISSION ADAPTER, REMOVAL, 6.7L .
- Remove four rear oil pan bolts 29 - 32. Slide a feeler gauge between the seal retainer and oil pan gasket to break the seal.
- Loosen the 12 rear oil pan bolts 1, 4, 7 - 10, 15 - 18, 27 - 28. Then slightly pry down on the rear of the oil pan.
- Remove the bolts (3), the rear seal retainer (1).
- Remove and discard gasket (2).
- Support the seal retainer and drive out the crankshaft seal with a hammer and suitable punch.
