The three way coolant valve is mounted on the right side of the frame rail in the engine compartment. The valve has three coolant ports, coolant inlet, transmission heater outlet and heater core outlet. Coolant is routed from the engine to the three way coolant valve inlet, and then out to the heater core and transmission oil heater. The three way coolant valve contains a ball valve that can vary the coolant outlet flow between the transmission oil heater and the heater core. The ball valve position is controlled by pulse with modulated signal provided by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM determines coolant flow based on cabin compartment heat demand.
