Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS NOTE:
If P0464, P2066, P2633, P2634, or P2636 DTCs are present, perform the Diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.
NOTE:If there are any CAN Bus or BCM related DTCs present, perform the Diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Are any of the DTCs listed above present at this time?
Yes
- Perform the Diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.
No
- Go To 2
- CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKS
- Turn the ignition off.
- With the scan tool, navigate to the BCM and PCM to activate the Primary (Main) and Auxiliary (Secondary) Lift Pumps.
- Visually inspect the transfer hose between the Auxiliary (Secondary) Fuel Tank and the Primary (Main) Fuel Tank for leaks.
Were any leaks found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR (N4) SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the BCM C5/E harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the Fuel Level Sensor (N4) Signal circuit between the Fuel Level Sensor harness connector and the BCM harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the Fuel Level Sensor (N4) Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR 2 (N5) SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the BCM C5/E harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the Fuel Level Sensor 2 (N5) Signal circuit between the Fuel Level Sensor harness connector and the BCM harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the Fuel Level Sensor 2 (N5) Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE PRIMARY (MAIN) FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Primary (Main) Fuel Tank Assembly in-line harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display DTC: P0463-FUEL LEVEL SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT HIGH with the connector unplugged?
Yes
- Check the Primary (Main) Fuel Tank Assembly harness for any signs of damage which could cause an open or shorted circuit. If the harness checks good, replace the Primary (Main) Fuel Tank Level Sending Unit in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK RELATED BCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS
- Using the appropriate wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors at the Fuel Tank Assembly in-line, Fuel Pump Module and the BCM.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Perform any Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 7
- CHECK RELATED PCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS
- Perform any Service Bulletins that apply.
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, (PCM) 6.7L DIESEL [ETL, ETM, ETN], REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
