Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS NOTE:
If DTCs P0107 or P0108 are present, repair those DTCs before proceeding.
NOTE:If there are any EGR Valve or EGR Airflow Control Valve DTCs present, repair those DTCs before proceeding.
NOTE:If customer states that there was an EVIC message "Service Air Filter", or if Freeze Frame Data shows "Air Filter Plugged Error equals ON", replace the Air Filter before continuing.
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any related DTCs present?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- Go To 2
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- READ AND RECORD DTCS - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, with the scan tool, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 75.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Perform the appropriate INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- VISUALLY INSPECT THE AIR FILTER
- Remove the Air Filter from the Air Filter box assembly.
- Inspect the Air Filter for excessive debris that would cause an air flow restriction.
Where excessive debris found on the Air Filter?
Yes
- Replace the Air Filter in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Reassemble the Air Filter box assembly.
- Go To 4
- CHECK FOR AN INTAKE AIR SYSTEM LEAK
- Perform the INTAKE AIR SYSTEM PRESSURE TEST. Refer to INTAKE AIR SYSTEM PRESSURE TEST
.
Where any leaks found?
Yes
- Repair the leak and perform a Mobile De-soot of the aftertreatment system.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Leave the Air Inlet Tube disconnected.
- Go To 5
- Perform the INTAKE AIR SYSTEM PRESSURE TEST. Refer to INTAKE AIR SYSTEM PRESSURE TEST
.
- VISUALLY INSPECT THE TURBOCHARGER
- Inspect the impeller gear on the turbocharger for damage or broken teeth.
Was there any damage found?
Yes
- Replace the Turbocharger assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- Inspect the impeller gear on the turbocharger for damage or broken teeth.
- CHECK THE EGR AIRFLOW THROTTLE CONTROL VALVE
- Remove the boot from the EGR Airflow Throttle Control Valve.
- Using a mirror, look at the butterfly valve on the inside of the EGR Airflow Throttle Control Valve.
- Start the vehicle, let idle for 10 seconds.
- Turn the ignition off.NOTE:
If functioning properly the EGR Airflow Throttle Control Valve will cycle closed immediately after the engine is shut down.
Did the EGR Airflow Throttle Control Valve cycle closed immediately after the engine was shut down?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Replace the EGR Airflow Throttle Control Valve in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE TEMPERATURE/MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (TMAP) SENSOR
- REPLACE THE TEMPERATURE/MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (TMAP) SENSOR AND RETEST FOR DTCS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Replace the Temperature/Manifold Absolute Pressure (TMAP) Sensor in accordance with the Service Information.
- Connect the component and Electronic Control Unit (ECU) harness connectors.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 9
No
- Replacing the faulty Temperature/Manifold Absolute Pressure (TMAP) Sensor repaired the fault.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK RELATED PCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS
- Perform any Service Bulletins that apply.
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, (PCM) 6.7L DIESEL [ETL, ETM, ETN], REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
