Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FUEL LEVEL TRANSFER NOTE:
If DTCs P0462 or P0463 are present, perform the Diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, record DTCs on the repair order.
- With the scan tool, record all Freeze frame Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.NOTE:
The remainder of this test will require monitoring the fuel level percentage of both fuel tanks on the scan tool.
- With the scan tool, verify that the Auxiliary Fuel Tank (Fuel Tank 2) level is above 25%.
- Turn the ignition off.NOTE:
To initiate fuel transfer, the Primary Fuel Tank level must be below 50%. However, siphoning fuel out of the Primary Tank must be done with the ignition off.
- Siphon fuel out of the Primary Fuel Tank (Fuel Tank 1) to facilitate bringing the level below 50%.
- Start the engine.
- With the scan tool, verify that the Primary Fuel Tank (Fuel Tank 1) level has been brought below 50%.NOTE:
Fuel transfer may take as long as five minutes to initiate.
- With the scan tool, verify that fuel transfer is being initiated.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE AUXILIARY FUEL PUMP (N2) SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO OTHER CIRCUITS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Auxiliary Fuel Pump Module harness connector.
- Disconnect the Power Distribution Center (PDC) C6 harness connector.
- Measure the continuity between the Auxiliary Fuel Pump (N2) Supply circuit and all other circuits at the PDC C6 harness connector.
Is there continuity between the Auxiliary Fuel Pump (N2) Supply circuit and any other circuit on the PDC C6 harness connector?
Yes
- Repair the Auxiliary Fuel Pump (N2) Supply circuit for a short to the circuit(s) that showed continuity on the PDC C6 harness connector.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE AUXILIARY FUEL PUMP (N2) SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Reconnect the Power Distribution Center (PDC) C6 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.NOTE:
This test cannot be performed when fuel transfer is being initiated.
- With the scan tool, verify that fuel transfer is NOT initiated.
- Backprobe the Auxiliary Fuel Pump (N2) Supply circuit at the PDC C6 harness connector looking for voltage.
Is there voltage present?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Go To 4
- AUXILIARY FUEL PUMP MODULE
- Replace the Auxiliary Fuel Pump Module in accordance with the Service Information.
- Reconnect all hoses and connectors. Retest using the When Monitored, Set Conditions, and Freeze frame Data to verify that the DTC no longer sets.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Test Complete.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE PCM/PDC
- Turn the Ignition off.
- Disconnect the PDC C3 harness connector.
- Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on, engine off.
- Using a 12-Volt test light connected to 12 Volts, probe the Fuel Pump 2 (N9) Control circuit at the PDC C3 harness connector.
- With the scan tool, toggle the Auxiliary Pump actuator.NOTE:
The test light must illuminate as brightly as a direct connection to the Battery.
- Observe the test light while toggling the Auxiliary Pump actuator.
Does the test light cycle on and off and illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Replace the Power Distribution Center (PDC) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to CENTER, POWER DISTRIBUTION (PDC), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK RELATED PCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS
- Perform any Service Bulletins that apply.
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to and MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, (PCM) 6.7L DIESEL [ETL, ETM, ETN], REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
