Removal And Installation
The Transmission Control Module (TCM), or Transmission Control Module Assembly (TCMA) is extremely sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Always use a ground strap and follow the ESD guidelines in ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD) SENSITIVE DEVICES. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the TCM/TCMA.
REMOVAL
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER/STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the transmission wire harness connector (1) from the transmission by rotating the connector counter-clockwise.NOTE:
Inspect the gasket for reuse. If the seal is cut or torn, replace the gasket.
- Remove the 13 oil pan retaining bolts (1).
- Remove the transmission fluid/filter pan assembly (2) and gasket.
- Remove the Manual Park Release (MPR) lever retaining nut and remove the lever.
- Reinstall the MPR lever 180 degrees offset. Using a tie strap, secure the lever into position so the park release fork remains in the same position for installation of the valve body assembly.
- If equipped, disconnect the Hydraulic Impulse Solenoid (HIS) wire harness connector (1).
- If equipped, remove the three HIS bolts (2) and remove the HIS accumulator.
- Remove the valve body assembly end retainer bolts (1, 2).
- Lift the electrical connector lock (3) to release the internal harness end from inside the transmission for valve body assembly removal.
- Remove the Output Speed Sensor (OSS) retaining bolt (1) and pull the sensor loose from the case.
- Using (special tool #10377, Remover/Installer, Guide Sleeve) (1), pull the electrical harness insulator (2) straight out from the transmission case.
- Remove two valve body assembly retaining bolts in the positions shown in illustration and hand install (special tool #10379, Pins, Valve Body Alignment) (1).
- Use an appropriate tool on one of the alignment pins to assist in holding the valve body in position while removing the remaining fasteners.
- Remove remaining valve body assembly retaining bolts in the order shown in illustration.
- Carefully lower the valve body assembly from the transmission.NOTE:
The fluid port may remain in the valve body upon removal, remove and discard the O-rings.
- Remove the fluid transfer port (1) from the transmission.
- Remove and DISCARD the fluid transfer port O-rings.
INSTALLATION

Always use a ground strap and follow the ESD guidelines in ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD) SENSITIVE DEVICES. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the TCM/TCMA.
- Install the fluid port (1) with NEW
O-rings to the valve body.
- Install the valve body assembly to the transmission using the previously installed (1) (special tool #10379, Pins, Valve Body Alignment) as a guide.
- Use an appropriate tool on one of the alignment pins to assist in holding the valve body in position while installing the remaining fasteners.
- Install the valve body assembly retaining bolts 1-14 and hand tighten.
- Remove the pins and install the remaining bolts.
- Using (special tool #10377, Remover/Installer, Guide Sleeve) (1) carefully install the electrical harness insulator (2) to the transmission case.
- Push the wire harness connector lock (3) down to lock it to the internal wire harness connector end and install the valve body end retaining bolts (1, 2).
- When installing the OSS into the case, take care to position the OSS guide pin as shown in illustration or DAMAGE
to the sensor may result. This is the INCORRECT
alignment of the pin.
- This is the CORRECT
installation and pin alignment.
- Install the OSS and install the OSS bolt (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Tighten ALL
of the valve body bolts to the proper specification in the sequence shown in illustration. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- If equipped, install the HIS accumulator.
- Tighten the HIS bolts (2) to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the HIS wire harness connector (1).
- Install the MPR cable end (1) on the MPR lever, install the MPR cable bracket bolts (2) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the transmission fluid/filter pan assembly and gasket (2).
- Install the 13 transmission fluid/filter pan assembly bolts and tighten the transmission fluid/filter pan assembly bolts in the sequence shown in illustration to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the transmission wire harness connector (1).
- Turn the locking mechanism of the transmission wire harness connector clockwise to lock it in place.
- Install the front exhaust Y Pipe. For 6.4L, Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION . For 6.7L, Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- If the valve body is replaced, program the TCM. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE procedure. Refer to TRANSMISSION OIL FILL AFTER SERVICE .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
If the transmission was contaminated or the gasket is damaged a NEW pan and filter assembly must be installed.
