INSTALLATION
When supporting or lifting the transmission at the oil pan the weight of the transmission must be distributed evenly on the lifting fixture. Failure to do so could damage the oil pan and transmission.
Make sure that the transmission dowel pins are seated in engine block and protrude far enough to hold transmission in alignment.
If the transmission is being reconditioned (clutch/seal replacement) or replaced, it is necessary to perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- Install the torque converter. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the extension housing (2), install the seven extension housing bolts (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Verify that the rubber access plugs (1) are installed in the front of the transmission.NOTE:
Hold torque converter in place during transmission installation.
NOTE:Rotate the torque converter to line up with the flex plate holes before the transmission is bolted to the engine.
- Install the transmission to the vehicle while still supporting it with a jack.
- Install the upper transmission to engine bolts (1) and tighten securely.
- Rotate crankshaft in clockwise direction to line up the alignment hole in the flex plate, then start the first bolt. Install the remaining torque converter bolts (1) and tighten all the torque converter bolts to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the structural dust cover. Refer to COVER, STRUCTURAL DUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Tighten ALL
upper transmission mounting bolts (1) to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the transmission vent tube (1).
- Position the starter (1) in place, install the starter bolts (2) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
.
- Position the fuel lines and bracket (1) in place and install the fuel line bracket bolt (2) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the transmission cooler lines (1) into the transmission and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the transmission cooler lines (1) into the division block (2) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
