Removal And Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 RAM 3500 HD and 2019 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

REMOVAL 

WARNING:

The fuel system may be under a constant pressure (even with the engine off). Before servicing the fuel pump module, the fuel system pressure must be released.

  1. Perform the fuel tank draining procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  4. If equipped, remove the fuel tank skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, FUEL TANK, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  5. Loosen the clamp (3) and disconnect the fuel filler hose.
  6. Loosen the clamp (1) and disconnect the fuel vent hose.
  7. Disconnect the fresh air vent hose (2).

  8. Disconnect the fuel pump module wire harness connector (2).
  9. Disconnect the fuel supply (1) and return line (3) quick-connect fitting at the fuel pump module.

  10. Using a suitable hydraulic jack with a fuel tank adapter, support the fuel tank.
  11. Remove the two fuel tank support strap retaining nuts (1) and both fuel tank support straps (2).
  12. Lower the fuel tank and remove from hydraulic jack.
  13. If necessary, remove the fuel pump module. Refer to MODULE, FUEL PUMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

INSTALLATION 

  1. If removed, install the fuel pump module. Refer to MODULE, FUEL PUMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  2. Secure the fuel tank on a suitable hydraulic jack with a fuel tank adapter.
  3. Raise the fuel tank until snug to the body.
  4. Install the fuel tank straps (2) and tighten the nuts (1) to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS- 6.7L .
  5. Remove the hydraulic jack.

  6. Connect the fuel supply (1) and return (3) line quick connect fitting to the fuel pump module.
  7. Connect the fuel pump module wire harness connector (4).

  8. Connect the fresh air vent hose (2).
  9. Connect the fuel vent hose and securely tighten the clamp (1).
  10. Connect the fuel filler hose and securely tighten the clamp (3).
  11. If equipped, install the fuel tank skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, FUEL TANK, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  12. Connect the fuel line quick-connect fitting at the fuel rail.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  14. Fill the fuel tank.
  15. Start the engine and check for leaks at all fuel tank connections.
