Removal And Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 RAM 3500 HD and 2019 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

REMOVAL

  1. Disconnect the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) wire harness connector (2).
  2. Remove the ground terminal M8 nut (1).

  3. Remove the negative battery cable eyelets (1) from the battery terminal.

  4. Loosen  the M6 nut (1).
    NOTE:

    Do not remove the M6 nut, doing so will cause the M6 stud on IBS pole clamp to break.

  5. Using the appropriate battery terminal puller, remove the battery cable terminal (2) from the negative battery post.
    NOTE:

    Never pry the IBS to remove it from the pole clamp. This will damage the IBS and will need to be replaced.

INSTALLATION 

NOTE:

Connecting the negative battery cable to the IBS must be done before installing on the battery post.

NOTE:

Avoid IBS rotation during tightening of M8 nut as to avoid contact of IBS wire harness connector breakage when rotating in to the battery.

  1. Place the IBS onto the negative battery post and push the IBS down until properly seated on the cone of the post.

  2. Connect the negative battery cable to the IBS M8 stud (1) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE:

    M8 has much higher torque than the M6 clamp and can break IBS free if the M6 is tightened prior. 

  3. Tighten the M6 pole clamp nut to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. Install the IBS wire harness connector (Power & LIN) (2). Make sure there is no stress on the wires  .
