Removal And Installation
REMOVAL
Review the safety precautions and warnings in this service information before performing this procedure. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or death.
Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.
- Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
.
- Remove the nut (1) that secures the A/C suction jumper line (2) to the A/C suction line.
- Install plugs in, or tape over the open refrigerant line fittings.
Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the nut (1) that secures the A/C suction jumper line to the A/C compressor.
- Install plugs in, or tape over the open refrigerant line fittings.
Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Separate the A/C suction jumper line (2) from the A/C compressor and install plugs in, or tape over the open refrigerant line fittings. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the A/C suction jumper line (2) from the engine compartment.
INSTALLATION
When replacing multiple A/C system components, see the REFRIGERANT OIL CAPACITIES chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals and gaskets is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals and metal gaskets may result in a refrigerant system leak.
- Position the A/C suction jumper line in the engine compartment.
- Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings.NOTE:
Lubricate NEW rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil, then install the O-ring seals and new gaskets to the discharge line fittings. Use only the specified O-ring seals as they are made of a special material for the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
- Install the A/C suction jumper line to the A/C suction line and the A/C compressor. Install NEW O-ring seals.
- Install the nut that secures the A/C suction jumper line to the A/C suction line and tighten the nut to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the nut that secures the A/C suction jumper line to the A/C compressor and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
