Diagnostic Test
- DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC NOTE:
Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
NOTE:The scan tool, (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool), and DVOM are required to perform the following test.
- Turn the ignition on.
Select ACTIVE or STORED DTC:
ACTIVE DTC
NOTE:If DTC is active, disconnect and reconnect the inline Body/Seat connector and note if DTC remains active. DTC remained active?
- Go To 2
STORED DTC
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- Turn the ignition on.
- CHECK (R58) PASSENGER SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (R284) PASSENGER SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT Fig 1: Checking Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch Sense Circuit For A Short To The Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch Return Circuit

WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Locate the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Disconnect the connector.
- Measure the resistance between the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch Sense circuit and the (R284) Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch Return circuit at the appropriate terminals of the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5k Ohms?
Yes
NOTE:If the short is found in the Seat Harness, do not attempt to repair the Seat Harness. Replace the Seat Harness in accordance with the Service Information.
- Repair or replace the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Switch Sense circuit for a short to the (R284) Passenger Seat Belt Switch Return circuit in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .

- Go To 3
- Locate the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector.
- CHECK OPERATION OF PASSENGER SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH
- Replace the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch. Refer to BUCKLE, SEAT BELT, REMOVAL .
- Reconnect the ORC harness connectors.
- If the vehicle is equipped with the standard key ignition, follow this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- If the vehicle is equipped with the keyless ignition, follow this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector - use the most current software available.
- Use the scan tool and erase all codes in the ORC.
- Perform ORC module reset. Access the Miscellaneous Function menu from the ORC ECU Overview screen on the scan tool to perform this operation.
- Wait one minute, and read active codes.
Did the active B0052-2B-PASSENGER SEATBELT BUCKLE SENSOR - WIRES SHORTED TOGETHER DTC return?
Yes
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
No
- Repair is complete.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
