Diagnostic Test

VERIFY ACTIVE DTC
NOTE:
Make sure the battery is fully charged.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read the ORC DTCs.
  Does the scan tool display active B0052-11-PASSENGER SEATBELT SENSOR - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND DTC?
  
  Yes
  - Go To 2
  No
  - Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
CHECK PASSENGER SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
1. Disconnect the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector.
  NOTE:
  Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
2. Measure the resistance of the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch Sense circuit between terminal 1 of the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector and ground.
3. Measure the resistance of the (R60) First Row Passenger Seat Sensors Common Return circuit between terminal 2 of the Passenger Seat Belt Switch harness connector and ground.
  Is the resistance below 10k Ohms on any of these circuits?
  
  Yes
  - Repair the (R58) or (R60) Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch circuits for a short to ground in accordance with the Service Information.
  - Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
  No
  - Go To 3
CHECK (R58) PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (R60) FIRST ROW PASSENGER SEAT SENSORS COMMON RETURN CIRCUIT
1. Measure the resistance between the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch Sense circuit connector and (R60) First Row Passenger Seat Sensors Common Return circuit at the appropriate terminals of the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector.
  Is the resistance below 5k Ohms?
  
  Yes
  
  NOTE:
  If the short is found in the Seat Harness, do not attempt to repair the Seat Harness. Replace the Seat Harness in accordance with the Service Information.
  - Repair the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch Sense circuit for a short to the (R60) First Row Passenger Seat Sensors Common Return circuit in accordance with the Service Information.
  - Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
  No
  - Go To 4
CHECK OPERATION OF THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH
1. Replace the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to BUCKLE, SEAT BELT, REMOVAL .
2. Reconnect the vehicle body harness connector to the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch.
3. Remove any special tools or jumper wires and reconnect all previously disconnected components - except the Battery.
4. If equipped with the standard key ignition, use this ignition on warning.
  WARNING:
  Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
5. If equipped with the keyless ignition, use this ignition on warning.
  WARNING:
  Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
6. Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector - use the most current software available.
7. Use the scan tool and erase the stored codes in all airbag system modules.
8. Turn the Ignition OFF, and wait 15 seconds before turning the Ignition ON.
9. Wait one minute, and read active DTCs and if there are none present read the stored DTCs.
  Does the scan tool display active B0052-11-PASSENGER SEATBELT SENSOR - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND DTC?
  
  Yes
  
  WARNING:
  Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
  
  WARNING:
  If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
  - Replace the Occupant Restrain Controller (ORC) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
  - Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
  No
  - Repair is complete.
  - Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
