Diagnostic Test
- DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC NOTE:
Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
NOTE:The scan tool, (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool), and DVOM are required to perform the following test.
- Turn the ignition on.
Select ACTIVE or STORED DTC:
ACTIVE DTC
- Go To 2
STORED DTC
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- Turn the ignition on.
- CHECK FOR SHORTED SQUIB CIRCUITS IN THE LEFT SEAT AIRBAG WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Left Seat Airbag harness connector.WARNING:
Do not place an intact non-deployed Seat Squib Airbag face down on a hard surface, the airbag will propel into the air if accidentally deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE:Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) to the Left Seat Airbag harness connector.
- If equipped with the standard key ignition, use this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- If equipped with the keyless ignition, use this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTC.
Does the scan tool display: B0020-2B-LEFT SIDE DEPLOYMENT SQUIB 1 - WIRES SHORTED TOGETHER?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the Left Seat Airbag in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to AIR BAG, DRIVER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
- Disconnect the Left Seat Airbag harness connector.
- CHECK FOR LEFT SEAT AIRBAG SQUIB CIRCUITS SHORTED TOGETHER IN THE SEAT BACK WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Left Seat Airbag in-line harness connector (under Left Seat).NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) to the Left Seat Airbag in-line harness connector (Body Side).
- If equipped with the standard key ignition, use this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- If equipped with the keyless ignition, use this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTC.
Does the scan tool display: B0020-2B-LEFT SIDE SEAT DEPLOYMENT SQUIB 1 - WIRES SHORTED TOGETHER?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- In accordance with the Service Information repair or replace the Left Seat Airbag wiring harness (Side Airbag Jumper). Circuits (R5) and (R7) are shorted together between the in-line connector and the Left Seat Airbag connector.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
- Disconnect the Left Seat Airbag in-line harness connector (under Left Seat).
- CHECK (R5) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (R7) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 1 CIRCUIT WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) from the Left Seat Airbag harness connector.
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443-24, 32-Way Adapter) to the ORC harness connectors.
- Measure the resistance of the (R5) Left Seat Squib 1 line 2 circuit between the (special tool #8443-24, 32-Way Adapter) connector C1B cavity 6 and the (R7) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 1 circuit at (special tool #8443-24, 32-Way Adapter) connector C1B cavity 5.
Is the resistance below or within the range of 1.5 - 2.18 Ohms?
Yes
- In accordance with the Service Information repair or replace the Left Seat Airbag wiring harness. Circuits (R5) and (R7) shorted together between the in-line connector and the ORC C2 (32 way) connector.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .

WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
