Diagnostic Test
- DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC NOTE:
Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
NOTE:The scan tool, (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool), and DVOM are required to perform the following test.
- Turn the ignition on.
Select ACTIVE or STORED DTC:
ACTIVE DTC
- Go To 2
STORED DTC
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- Turn the ignition on.
- CHECK FOR OPEN LEFT SEAT THORAX AIRBAG SQUIB WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Left Seat Thorax Airbag harness connector.WARNING:
Do not place an intact non-deployed Seat Squib Airbag face down on a hard surface, the airbag will propel into the air if accidentally deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE:Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) to the Left Seat Thorax Airbag harness connector.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
Does the scan tool display: B0020-13-LEFT SIDE SEAT DEPLOYMENT SQUIB 1 - CIRCUIT OPEN?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the Left Seat Thorax Airbag in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to AIR BAG, DRIVER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
- Disconnect the Left Seat Thorax Airbag harness connector.
- CHECK FOR OPEN (R5) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 2 CIRCUIT WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) from the Left Seat Thorax Airbag harness connector.
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443-24, 32-Way Adapter) to the ORC C1 and C2 harness connectors.
- Measure the resistance of the (R5) Left Seat Thorax Squib 1 Line 2 circuit between the Left Seat Thorax Airbag harness connector cavity 1 and the (special tool #8443-24, 32-Way Adapter) connector C1B cavity 6.
Is the resistance below 2.0 Ohm?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair or Replace the (R5) Left Seat Thorax Squib 1 Line 2 circuit for an open or high resistance in accordance with Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
- CHECK FOR AN OPEN (R7) LEFT SEAT THORAX SQUIB 1 LINE 1 CIRCUIT
- Measure the resistance of the (R7) Left Seat Thorax Squib 1 Line 1 circuit between the Left Seat Thorax Airbag harness connector cavity 2 and the (special tool #8443-24, 32-Way Adapter) connector C1B cavity 5.
Is the resistance below 2.0 Ohm?
Yes
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
No
- Repair or Replace the (R7) Left Seat Thorax Squib 1 Line 1 circuit for an open or high resistance in accordance with Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS-SYSTEM-VERIFICATION-TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (R7) Left Seat Thorax Squib 1 Line 1 circuit between the Left Seat Thorax Airbag harness connector cavity 2 and the (special tool #8443-24, 32-Way Adapter) connector C1B cavity 5.
