Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs and record on the repair order.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK BRAKE SWITCH ADJUSTMENT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Check the Brake Switch for damage that would cause it to be out of adjustment in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SWITCH, STOP LAMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

      Is the Brake Switch in good operating condition?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

  3. CHECK BRAKE SWITCH FUNCTION 
    1. Disconnect the Brake switch harness connector.
    2. Measure the resistance across the brake switch terminals 1 and 4 while applying and releasing the brake pedal.
      NOTE:

      The brake switch 2 is normally open when the brake pedal is released.

      Does the resistance reading indicate that the switch is closing and opening when applying and releasing the brake pedal?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

  4. CHECK (B134) BRAKE SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Disconnect the TCM C1 harness connector.
    2. Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) C1 connector.
    3. Disconnect the Body Control Module (BCM) C4 connector.
    4. Disconnect the Radio Frequency (RF) Hub C1 harness connector.
    5. Measure the resistance of the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit between the Brake Switch harness connector and all related Module harness connectors.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms for each measurement?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

  5. CHECK (B134) BRAKE SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Check for continuity between ground and the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit at the TCM C1 harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK (B134) BRAKE SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT 
    1. Measure the resistance between the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit and all other circuits in each related Module harness connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance between the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit and all other circuits in the Brake Switch harness connector.

      Is there continuity between the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit and any other circuit?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  7
  7. CHECK BCM 
    1. Connect the Brake Switch harness connector.
    2. Connect the BCM harness connector.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Apply and release the brake pedal several times.
    5. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Are Brake Switch DTCs set in the BCM?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  8
  8. CHECK PCM 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Connect the PCM harness connector.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Apply and release the brake pedal several times.
    5. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Are Brake Switch DTCs set in the BCM?

      Yes 

      • Go To  9

      No 

  9. CHECK RF HUB 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Connect the RF Hub harness connector.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Apply and release the brake pedal several times.
    5. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Are Brake Switch DTCs set in the BCM?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  10
  10. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect all TCM harness connectors.
    3. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    4. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    5. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    6. Reconnect all TCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    9. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    10. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    11. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
