Theory Of Operation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Jeep Renegade. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Clutch position sensor "A" nomenclature refers to the odd clutch position sensor. The purpose of the sensor is to detect the position of the odd clutch plate within the full range of clutch engagement. This diagnostic compares the output signal of the sensor to threshold values of normal operation. When the signal is out of range the diagnostic will be considered failing. The sensor is a Hall Effect position sensor which provides an output signal with Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) at a fixed frequency and duty cycle proportional to the position of the clutch. The PWM duty cycle ranges between 10% and 90%.
