Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Jeep Renegade. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

This diagnostic compares the output signal of the park position sensor to a threshold value to determine if operation is normal. The sensor provides an output signal with Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) at a fixed frequency and duty cycle proportional to the position of the actuator. The PWM duty cycle electrical range is between 10% and 90%. If the signal is in the electrical range but it is lower than a threshold, then the diagnostic will be considered failing.
