Vehicles with an electronic automatic transmission have a Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) that is used to perform several functions, including that of the backup lamp switch. The TRS may be a separate component, or it may be an integral part of an electronic automatic transmission solenoid pack or of a transmission gear selector module.
