Diesel Engine

WARNING: Do not loosen the radiator cap with the cooling system hot and pressurized. Serious burns from the coolant can occur.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine - Removal .
  3. Drain engine coolant below the thermostat level using the draincock only. See Cooling - Standard Procedure .
  4. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
  5. Remove the coolant hoses and the bypass hose (1) from the thermostat housing (2).
  6. Loosen the accessory drive belt and reposition the generator. Refer to Electrical/Charging/GENERATOR - Removal .
  7. Remove the thermostat housing (2) and O-ring.
  8. Clean all sealing surfaces.
