BOOSTER, Power Brake: Removal: LHD

NOTE: Before proceeding. See Brakes - Warning  or Brakes - Caution .

  1. Unclip the air cleaner cover (two clips) and move the cover aside.

  2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable (1) from its post on the battery (4).
  3. Remove the master cylinder. See Brakes/Hydraulic/Mechanical/MASTER CYLINDER, Brake - Removal 
  4. If the vehicle is equipped with ABS, remove the integrated control unit (ICU). Refer to Brakes/Hydraulic/Mechanical/INTEGRATED CONTROL UNIT (ICU) - Removal - REMOVAL)

  5. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the check valve (1) on the power brake booster, but do not remove the check valve from power brake booster.
  6. Inside the vehicle, remove the silencer pad below the knee blocker.
  7. Fold down and remove the knee blocker.

  8. Remove the stop lamp switch (1) by rotating the switch counterclockwise approximately 30 degrees, then pulling it rearward out of the bracket. Disconnect the wiring harness connector and discard the switch. Do not reuse the stop lamp switch.

  9. Remove the retaining clip (4) securing the power brake booster push rod to the brake pedal. To do so, position a small screwdriver (1) under the center tang of the retaining clip, then rotate the screwdriver enough to allow the retaining clip tang to pass over the end of the brake pedal pin (3). Remove and discard the clip. Do not reuse the clip. 
  10. Slide the booster push rod (2) off the brake pedal pin (3).

  11. Remove the four nuts (2, 3) attaching the power brake booster to the instrument panel. The nuts are accessible from under the instrument panel in the area of the brake pedal bracket.
  12. Slide the power brake booster forward until its mounting studs clear the instrument panel, then remove it through the engine compartment.
