Installation
INSTALLATION
NOTE: If replacing parking brake shoes on both sides of vehicle, perform 1 through 13 on each side of the vehicle to complete shoe set installation, then proceed to 14.
1. Install the front brake shoe (1) on the adapter. Insert the hold-down pin (3) (from the rear) through the shoe and install the hold-down clip (2) securing the shoe in place. Position the clip as shown to avoid contact with other components.
2. Attach the upper shoe return spring (1) on the two shoes. Pull the rear brake shoe (2) over the anchor block until it is properly located on the adapter. Make sure the parking brake actuator lever is properly installed between the front and rear shoes.
3. Install the lower return spring (2) on the shoes.
4. Install the brake shoe adjuster (1) between the front and rear shoes (2). The star wheel mounts toward the rear of the vehicle.
5. Insert the hold-down pin (3) (from the rear) through the rear shoe (1) and install the hold-down clip (2) securing the shoe in place. Position the clip as shown to avoid contact with other components.
6. Using a brake shoe gauge (2), adjust the parking brake shoes (1) to a diameter of 171 mm (6.75 inch).
7. Slide the hub and bearing (2) onto the rear spindle (6).
8. Install a NEW hub and bearing retaining nut (11). Tighten the hub nut to 217 Nm (160 ft. lbs.).
9. Install the hub and bearing dust cap (10).
10. Install the brake rotor (8).
11. Install the disc brake caliper (1) over the rotor (2) and onto the brake adapter (4, then 3) as indicated.
12. Install the two caliper guide pin bolts (4) securing the caliper (1). Tighten the bolts to 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.).
13. Install tire and wheel assembly (1) Tires and Wheels - Installation. Install and tighten wheel mounting nuts (3) to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
