Cylinder Head Off

2 - VALVE RETAINER

With cylinder head removed from cylinder block, compress valve springs (3) using a universal valve spring compressor.
Remove valve retaining locks (1), valve spring retainers (2), valve springs (3), and valve stem seals (4).
Before removing valves (5), remove any burrs from valve stem lock grooves to prevent damage to the valve guides. Identify valves, locks and retainers to insure installation in original location.
Inspect the valves (Refer to ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/VALVE SPRINGS - INSPECTION) .
