Shoe And Linings-Rear Drum Brake: Removal

Before proceeding, (Refer to BRAKES - WARNING) (Refer to BRAKES - CAUTION)

NOTE:
Make sure parking brake is in "released" position before raising vehicle.
- Raise and support the vehicle. (Refer to LUBRICATION & MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCEDURE)NOTE: Perform step 2. through step 12. on each side of the vehicle to complete shoe set removal. It may be easier to install the new components on the first side of the vehicle before disassembling the opposite side so it may be used as a reference guide for proper installation. (Refer to BRAKES/HYDRAULIC/MECHANICAL/BRAKE PADS/SHOES - REAR DRUM - INSTALLATION)
- Remove the wheel mounting nuts (3), then the rear tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove any brake drum retaining clips (5), then the drum (6). (Refer to BRAKES/HYDRAULIC/MECHANICAL/DRUM - REMOVAL)
- Remove the dust cap (4) from the hub and bearing (7).
1 - DUST CAP 2 - NUT 3 - DRUM 4 - HUB AND BEARING 5 - WHEEL CYLINDER 6 - SUPPORT PLATE 7 - BRAKE SHOES - Remove the hub nut (2), then slide the hub and bearing (4) from the spindle.
- Compress the cable return spring, then remove the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever.
1 - HOLD-DOWN SPRING CLIPS 2 - WHEEL CYLINDER 3 - ANCHOR 4 - LOWER RETURN SPRING - Remove the lower return spring (4).
- Compress and remove both shoe hold-down spring clips (1).
- Remove both shoes and remaining parts as an assembly from the anchor (3) and the wheel cylinder (2).
1 - LEVER 2 - UPPER RETURN SPRING 3 - LEVER PAWL 4 - LEADING SHOE 5 - ADJUSTER SPRING 6 - ADJUSTER 7 - TRAILING SHOE - Remove the adjuster spring (5) from the leading shoe and the lever pawl (3).
- Remove the lever pawl (3) from the pivot on the leading shoe (4) and slide it out from under the adjuster (6).
- Remove the adjuster (6) and the upper return spring (2) from the shoes (4, 7).
