1.6L Engine

NOTE:
Before proceeding, review all Warnings and Cautions, (Refer to COOLING - WARNING) and (Refer to STEERING - WARNING)
.
- Disconnect battery negative (-) terminal.
- Remove the accessory drive belt, (Refer to COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELT - REMOVAL) .
- Remove power steering fluid reservoir. (Refer to STEERING/PUMP/RESERVOIR - REMOVAL) .
- Remove generator. (Refer to ELECTRICAL/CHARGING/GENERATOR - REMOVAL) .
- Drain engine coolant, (Refer to COOLING/ENGINE/COOLANT - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- If equipped with air conditioning, remove A/C compressor upper mounting bolts.
- Raise vehicle, (Refer to LUBRICATION & MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- Remove accessory drive belt splash shield.
- If equipped with air conditioning, remove A/C compressor lower mounting bolts. Reposition A/C compressor to allow access to power steering pump/water pump lower mounting bolts. Do not overextend A/C hoses.
1 - RETURN HOSE 2 - FLUID RESERVOIR 3 - SUPPLY HOSE 4 - 1.6L ENGINE 5 - COOLER OUTLET TUBE 6 - PRESSURE HOSE - Remove radiator hose (3) at inlet to water pump. See Fig 1.
- Remove heater tube hose at water pump.
- Lower vehicle.
- Remove the bolt fastening the power steering pressure hose to the reservoir bracket.
- Back out the tube nut securing the power steering fluid pressure hose to the power steering pump and remove the hose from the pump. Cap off hose end and pump pressure port.
- Remove coolant outlet connector hose at water pump outlet.
1 - OUTLET HOSE CONNECTOR FITTING BOLT (2) 2 - WATER PUMP 3 - POWER STEERING PUMP MOUNTING BOLT (4) 4 - POWER STEERING PUMP - Remove all four power steering pump mounting bolts (3). See Fig 2.
- Remove power steering pump and water pump as an assembly.
- To separate the power steering pump from the water pump, (Refer to COOLING/ENGINE/WATER PUMP - DISASSEMBLY) .
- If the power steering pump pulley needs to be removed, (Refer to STEERING/PUMP - DISASSEMBLY - PULLEY - REMOVAL) .
