Deployed Passenger Airbag

For deployed passenger airbags, the instrument panel top pad must be replaced. 

  1. Open hood.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
    WARNING: Wait two minutes for the airbag system reserve capacitor to discharge before beginning any airbag system or component service. Failure to do so may result in accidental airbag deployment, personal injury or death.
  3. Remove instrument panel (Refer to BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY - REMOVAL) .
  4. Disconnect the passenger airbag electrical connector (3).
  5. Remove the four left and right passenger airbag mounting screws (1).
  6. Remove the two lower passenger airbag mounting bolts (2).
  7. Separate passenger airbag from instrument panel.
  8. Remove and inspect all reusable components from the instrument panel and transfer to the new instrument panel top pad.
  9. Clean powder residue from interior of vehicle (Refer to ELECTRICAL/RESTRAINTS - STANDARD PROCEDURE - SERVICE AFTER AN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT) .
