PAN, Oil: Removal: AWD

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Lock the steering wheel in the center position.
  3. Siphon the power steering fluid from the pump reservoir.
  4. Remove the generator bracket bolt (3).
  5. Loosen the upper most generator mounting bolt (2) and reposition the generator bracket (4).

  6. Remove the engine oil level indicator tube retaining bolt (1) and remove the indicator tube (2).

  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Quick Reference/Hoisting - Standard Procedure .
  8. Remove the belly pan. Refer to Frame and Bumpers/Under Body Protection/BELLY PAN - Removal .
  9. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter (3). See Engine/Lubrication/OIL - Standard Procedure .
  10. Remove the oil cooler mounting stud and relocate the oil cooler (1) (if equipped). See Engine/Lubrication/COOLER, Oil - Removal .

  11. Remove the right and left front axle shafts (2). Refer to Differential and Driveline/Half Shaft - Removal .

  12. Unthread the return hose tube nut (1) from the steering gear (2). Remove the return hose from the steering gear.
  13. Unthread the pressure hose tube nut (3) from the steering gear (2). Remove the pressure hose from the steering gear.

  14. Remove the left front axle intermediate shaft support bracket and housing (3). Refer to Differential and Driveline/Front Axle/DISCONNECT, Front Axle - Removal .

  15. Remove the front propeller shaft heat shield (4) and the front propeller shaft. Refer to Differential and Driveline/Propeller Shaft - Removal .

  16. Remove the right catalytic converter. Refer to Exhaust System/CONVERTER, Catalytic - Removal .

  17. Separate the power steering return line (3) from the cradle (2) by unfastening the clips (1).
  18. Remove the lower engine mount to cradle fasteners.
  19. Remove the front stabilizer bar. Refer to Front Suspension/Front/STABILIZER BAR, Front - Removal .

  20. Raise and support the engine with a jack stand.
  21. Remove the front axle housing support bracket (1).
  22. Remove the front axle housing fasteners, rotate the housing position and remove the axle housing (3).
  23. Lower the engine and remove the jack stand.

  24. Remove the four bolts (1) that secure the oil pan (2) to the transmission (3).

  25. Remove the flex plate access cover (1).

  26. Remove the two rear oil pan bolts (3).

  27. Remove the remaining oil pan bolts (2) and nuts (3).
    NOTE: A small amount of oil will remain in the oil pan. Use care when removing the oil pan from the engine.
  28. Remove the oil pan (1).
  29. Clean all mating surfaces.
