Hose-Pressure, 2.4L

CAUTION: Power steering fluid hoses must remain away from the exhaust system, driveshafts, vehicle components and any unfriendly surface that can possibly damage the hoses.

Using a lint free towel, wipe clean the open power steering hose end and the power steering pump port. Replace any used O-rings with new. Lubricate the O-ring with power steering fluid.

1 - PUMP

2 - PRESSURE HOSE
Install the power steering pressure hose into the engine compartment from the bottom. Guide the pump end of the hose up past the left side of the A/C compressor and insert the end of the pressure hose into the pump (1).
Start the mounting bolt through the routing bracket, loosely attaching the pressure hose (2) to the engine block.

By hand, thread the pressure hose tube nut into the pump (1).

Using a crowfoot wrench on a long extension with a torque wrench, tighten the pressure hose tube nut (from below) at the power steering pump to 31 N.m (23 ft. lbs.).

1 - COMPRESSOR
Install the four bolts fastening the A/C compressor (1) to the engine. Tighten the mounting bolts to 28 N.m (250 in. lbs.).
Install the A/C compressor wiring connectors.
Install the A/C drive belt. Refer to INSTALLATION .

Position the drive-belt splash shield (3) and install the fasteners (4) securing it to the body (2).
Install the fastener (5) securing the drive belt splash shield (3) to the front suspension crossmember (6).
If previously removed, install the fasteners securing the front fascia (1) to the body lower reinforcement.

Install the one fastener (2) securing the wheel house splash shield (1) to the drive belt splash shield (3).

Install the tire and wheel assembly (1). Refer to INSTALLATION . Install and tighten wheel mounting nuts (3) to 135 N.m (100 ft. lbs.).

Tighten the mounting bolt (previously left loose) securing the pressure hose and routing bracket to the engine block to 8 N.m (70 in. lbs.).

Attach the pressure hose (1) and routing brackets to the structural collar. Tighten the mounting bolts (2) to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.).

Using a lint free towel, wipe clean the open power steering hose end and the power steering gear port. Replace any used O-rings with new. Lubricate the O-ring with power steering fluid.

CAUTION: Forward of the steering gear, the pressure hose routes between the front suspension crossmember and the driveshaft. When tightening the pressure hose tube nut to the steering gear, the pressure hose must be positioned (clocked) such that its final routing (after tightened) offers 4-10 mm clearance to the front suspension crossmember (measured at the pressure hose steel-to-rubber coupling). There should be a clocking donut (6) (foam sleeve) on the hose to preset this distance.

LHD - Attach the power steering fluid pressure hose (4) to its port on the power steering gear. While making sure the hose is not in contact with any vehicle components (see preceding caution), tighten the pressure hose tube nut at the gear to 31 N.m (23 ft. lbs.).

RHD - Attach the power steering fluid pressure hose (3) to its port on the power steering gear (5). While making sure the hose is not in contact with any vehicle components (see preceding caution), tighten the pressure hose tube nut at the gear to 31 N.m (23 ft. lbs.).
Lower the vehicle.
Fill and bleed the power steering system. See STANDARD PROCEDURE .
Check for leaks at all hose connections.
