Section 15 (2.7L Engine (Service Information)): Pan-Oil: Installation

- Clean oil pan and sealing surfaces. Inspect timing chain cover gaskets. Replace as necessary.
- Apply an 1/8 inch bead of Mopar® Engine RTV GEN II to the front T-joints (1) (oil pan gasket to timing cover gasket interface) and the rear T-joints (2) (oil pan gasket to crankshaft rear oil seal retainer gasket interface).
- Install oil pan gasket to block.NOTE: To prevent oil leaks at oil pan to timing chain cover, the following tightening sequence procedure must be performed.
- Install oil pan while aligning the oil level indicator tube and attach fasteners using the following tightening sequence:
- Install oil pan bolts and nuts finger tight only-just tight enough to compress the gasket's rubber seal. Line up front of oil pan to be flush with front face of block.
- Install lower timing chain cover bolts (1) and tighten to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.). See Fig 2.
- Tighten oil pan bolts to 28 N.m (250 in. lbs.).
- Tighten oil pan nuts to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.).
- Install lower bolt attaching the A/C compressor to oil pan (2). Tighten bolt to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
- Install lower bolt attaching the alternator bracket to oil pan (1). Tighten bolt to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
- Install oil filter (3) and drain plug (5).
- Install structural collar (Refer to ENGINE/ENGINE BLOCK/STRUCTURAL COVER - INSTALLATION) .
- Position steering gear (2) in place and install mounting bolts (1). Tighten bolts (1) to 70 N.m (95 ft. lbs.).
- Install the steering coupling (2) lower pinch bolt (1) at the gear (3) using a new bolt (1). Tighten to 30 N.m (22 ft.lbs.) (Refer to STEERING/COLUMN/STEERING COUPLING - INSTALLATION) .
- Connect electrical connector (1) to steering gear (2).
- Install power steering line support (2) and tighten.
- Install lower splash shield (2) and retaining bolts (1).
- Lower vehicle.
- Install engine oil level indicator (4).
- Fill engine crankcase (5) with proper oil to correct level.
- Connect negative battery (1) cable.
- Start engine and check for leaks.
