Seal-Front Output Shaft: Installation

- Install a new front output shaft seal into the transfer case (2) using Seal Installer MD 998334 (1). See Fig 1.
- Coat both the outer surface and the seal lip with automatic transmission fluid.
1 - HOLDER 6958 2 - FRONT OUTPUT SHAFT FLANGE NOTE: Apply a light coating of automatic transmission fluid to the flange splines prior to installation.CAUTION: It may be necessary to use a block of wood and a soft-faced hammer to install the flange since the flange may have a slight interference fit to the output shaft. - Install the front output shaft flange onto the front output shaft.
- Install a new nut onto the output shaft.
- Using Holder 6958 (1), tighten the front output shaft flange (2) nut to 250 N.m (185 ft.lbs.). See Fig 2.
- Install the front propeller shaft. (Refer to DIFFERENTIAL & DRIVELINE/PROPELLER SHAFT - INSTALLATION)
- Check and correct the transfer case oil level. (Refer to TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE/TRANSFER CASE - MS140/FLUID - STANDARD PROCEDURE)
