Seal-Front Output Shaft: Installation

2 - TRANSFER CASE
  1. Install a new front output shaft seal into the transfer case (2) using Seal Installer MD 998334 (1). See Fig 1.
  2. Coat both the outer surface and the seal lip with automatic transmission fluid.

    NOTE: Apply a light coating of automatic transmission fluid to the flange splines prior to installation.
    CAUTION: It may be necessary to use a block of wood and a soft-faced hammer to install the flange since the flange may have a slight interference fit to the output shaft.
  3. Install the front output shaft flange onto the front output shaft.
  4. Install a new nut onto the output shaft.
  5. Using Holder 6958 (1), tighten the front output shaft flange (2) nut to 250 N.m (185 ft.lbs.). See Fig 2.
  6. Install the front propeller shaft. (Refer to DIFFERENTIAL & DRIVELINE/PROPELLER SHAFT - INSTALLATION)
  7. Check and correct the transfer case oil level. (Refer to TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE/TRANSFER CASE - MS140/FLUID - STANDARD PROCEDURE)
