Diagnostic Test
- 1) GOOD TRIP INDICATOR
Turn the ignition on, engine off.
With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the Good Trip Indicator display NO?
Yes
- Go To 2).
No
- Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
- 2) (K124) ETC POSITIVE CKT OPEN
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect ECT harness connector.
Disconnect PCM harness connector.
Measure the resistance of the (K124) ETC Positive circuit between the ETC harness connector and the PCM harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes
- Go To 3).
No
- Repair the open in the (K124) ETC Positive circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
- 3) (K124) ETC POSITIVE CKT SHORT TO GROUND

Measure the resistance between ground and the (K124) ETC Positive circuit at the ETC harness connector.
Is the resistance below 100 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the short to ground in the (K124) ETC Positive circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
No
- Go To 4).
- 4) (K124) ETC POSITIVE CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE
Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
With a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the (K124) ETC Positive circuit.
Does the test light illuminate brightly.
Yes
- Repair the short to voltage in the (K124) ETC Positive circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
No
- Go To 5).
- 5) (K126) ETC NEGATIVE CIRCUIT OPEN
Turn the ignition off.
Measure the resistance of the (K126) ETC Negative circuit between the ETC harness connector and the PCM harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes
- Go To 6).
No
- Repair the open in the (K126) ETC Negative circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
- 6) (K126) ETC NEGATIVE CKT SHORT TO GROUND

Measure the resistance between ground and the (K126) ETC Negative circuit at the ETC harness connector.
Is the resistance below 100 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the short to ground in the (K126) ETC Negative circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
No
- Go To 7).
- 7) (K126) ETC NEGATIVE CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE
Turn the ignition on, engine off.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the (K126) ETC Negative circuit.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Repair the short to voltage in the (K126) ETC Negative circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
No
- Go To 8).
- 8) ETC MOTOR
Measure the resistance of the ETC Motor between the (K126) ETC Negative and the (K124) ETC Positive terminal in the ETC Motor component connector.
Is the resistance between 3.0 and 5.0 ohms?
Yes
- Go To 9).
No
- Replace the Electronic Throttle Control Assembly.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
- 9) PCM NOTE: Before Continuing: Disconnect the PCM harness connector and check the related wiring terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.
Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wire harness and connectors. Pay particular attention to all Power and Ground circuits.
If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
Repair
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - PCM/ECM/SKREEM PROGRAMMING) .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
