Diagnostic Test

  1. 1)  THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR BELOW 0.30 VOLT 

    Turn the ignition on.

    With the scan tool, read the Throttle Position Sensor No.2 voltage values.

    Is either voltage reading below 0.30 volt? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  2).

    No 

    1. Go To  10).
  2. 2)  (F855) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT

    Turn the ignition off.

    Disconnect the ETC Assembly harness connector.

    Turn the ignition on.

    Measure the voltage on the (F855) 5-volt Supply circuit in the ETC Assembly harness connector.

    Is the voltage between 4.8 and 5.2 volts? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  3).

    No 

    1. Go To  7).
  3. 3)  TP SENSOR NO.2 INTERNAL FAILURE

    With the scan tool, monitor TPS No.2 Input voltage.

    Connect a jumper wire between the (F855) 5 Volt-Supply circuit and the (K122) TPS No.2 Signal circuit in the ETC Assembly harness connector.

    Is the voltage for TPS No.2 above 4.5 volts with the jumper wire in place? 

    Yes 

    1. Replace the ETC Assembly.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  4).
  4. 4)  (K122) TPS NO.2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN

    Turn the ignition off.

    Disconnect the PCM harness connector.

    Measure the resistance of the (K122) TPS No.2 Signal circuit.

    Is the resistance below 5 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  5).

    No 

    1. Repair the open (K122) TPS No.2 Signal circuit.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  5. 5)  (K122) TP SENSOR NO.2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND

    Measure the resistance between ground and the (K122) TP Sensor No.2 Signal circuit in the ETC Assembly harness connector.

    Is the resistance below 100 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the (K122) Throttle Position Sensor No.2 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  6).
  6. 6)  (K122) TP SENSOR NO.2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO (K922) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT

    Measure the resistance between the (K122) TP Sensor No.2 Signal circuit and the (K922) Sensor Ground circuit in the ETC Assembly harness connector.

    Is the resistance below 100 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the (K122) Throttle Position Sensor No.2 Signal circuit for a short to the (K922) Sensor Ground circuit.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  7).
  7. 7)  (F855) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT OPEN

    Measure the resistance of the (F855) 5-volt Supply circuit.

    Is the resistance below 5 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  8).

    No 

    1. Repair the (F855) 5-volt Supply circuit for an open.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  8. 8)  (F855) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND

    Measure the resistance between the (F855) 5-volt Supply circuit and ground in the ETC Assembly harness connector.

    Is the resistance below 100 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the short to ground in the (F855) 5-volt Supply circuit.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  9).
  9. 9)  PCM 
    NOTE: Before Continuing: Disconnect the PCM harness connector and check the related wiring terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.

    Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wire harness and connectors. Pay particular attention to all Power and Ground circuits.

    If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair. 

    Repair 

    1. Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - PCM/ECM/SKREEM PROGRAMMING) .
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  10. 10)  THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR SWEEP 

    With the scan tool, use the ETC System Test to open and close the throttle. Fully open and fully close the throttle several times.

    Monitor the Throttle Position Sensor No.2 Input voltage.

    Is the voltage change smooth as the throttle opens and closes? 

    Yes 

    1. Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Replace the ETC Assembly.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
