Gear Shift Cable: Removal

1 - GEARSHIFT KNOB

NOTE: The crossover and selector cables are manufactured as a cable "assembly" and cannot be serviced individually.

Pull up on gearshift knob (1) with moderate force to remove from gearshift mechanism. See Fig 1.

1 - GEARSHIFT BOOT
Remove shifter boot/bezel (1) assembly from console by lifting up at mounting ring area. See Fig 2.

1 - CENTER CONSOLE

Remove the center console assembly (1). See Fig 3.

1 - GROMMET PLATE NUT

2 - SHIFTER

3 - CROSSOVER CABLE

4 - CLIP

Remove three grommet plate-to-floor pan attaching nuts (1). See Fig 4.
Remove crossover cable retaining clip (4) and disconnect from shift lever.

3 - SELECTOR CABLE
Remove selector cable retaining clip (2) and disconnect from shift lever. See Fig 5.

1 - AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
Remove air cleaner assy (1). See Fig 6.

1 - BATTERY
Disconnect battery cables.
Remove battery hold-down clamp and battery (1). See Fig 7.

Remove battery tray (1). See Fig 8.

3 - BRACKET
Disconnect cables (1) from the shift levers at the transaxle. See Fig 9.
CAUTION: Pry up with equal force on both sides of shifter cable isolator bushings to avoid damaging cable isolator bushings.
Remove cable retaining clips (2) and remove cables (1) from bracket (3).

1 - CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD
Raise vehicle on hoist.
Remove converter heat shield (1). See Fig 10.

1 - CABLE ASSEMBLY

2 - GROMMET PLATE
Remove remaining grommet plate-to-floor pan screw.
Remove cable assembly (1) from vehicle. See Fig 11.
