2.2L Diesel Engine

1 - BY-PASS HOSE
2 - THERMOSTAT HOUSING
3 - UPPER RADIATOR HOSE
WARNING: Risk of injury to skin and eyes from scalding with hot coolant. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90° C (194° F). Open cap slowly to release pressure. Store coolant in suitable and appropriately marked container. Wear protective gloves, clothes and eye wear.
NOTE: Inspect condition of all clamps and hoses, replace as necessary.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove engine cover.
  3. Drain engine coolant below thermostat level using draincock only, (Refer to COOLING/ENGINE/COOLANT - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
  4. Disconnect coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
  5. Remove coolant hoses and by-pass (1) hose from thermostat housing. See Fig 1.
  6. Loosen accessory drive belt and reposition generator, (Refer to ELECTRICAL/CHARGING/GENERATOR - REMOVAL) .
  7. Remove thermostat housing and o-ring.
  8. Clean all sealing surfaces.
