Draining Cooling System - 2.2L Diesel

WARNING: Do not remove the cylinder block drain plug(s) or loosen the radiator draincock with system hot and under pressure. Serious burns from coolant can occur.

NOTE: Possible premature failure of cabin glow plugs may occur if the cabin heater glow plugs are exposed to air for more than 10 seconds when in operation. When filling the cooling system after a low coolant concern, the cabin heater glow plugs should be tested.

DO NOT remove pressurized coolant recovery container cap first. With engine at room temperature, raise vehicle on a hoist and locate radiator draincock.
NOTE: Radiator draincock faces the rear of the vehicle on the left lower side of the radiator.
Attach one end of a hose to the radiator draincock, place the other end of a hose into a clean container to collect coolant.
Lower the vehicle and connect a hose, approximately 6 in. long, to the upper right radiator vent valve, support hose in the vertical position.
Open the radiator vent valve by carefully pulling while rotating 180° counterclockwise.
Remove the coolant recovery container cap.
Open the radiator draincock by carefully pulling while rotating 180° counterclockwise, this will empty the complete system. The coolant does not have to be removed from the coolant recovery container unless the system is being refilled with a fresh mixture.

To drain the engine of coolant, remove the cylinder block drain plug located on the side of cylinder block.
