Rear Drum Brake Vehicles

- Place a NEW seal (2) on the spindle (10).
- Insert the spindle (10) (with seal) from the back into the brake support plate (9), then position the spindle and support plater on the end of the axle (1).
- Clean the threads of the bolts used to mount the support plate and spindle to the axle, then apply Mopar® Stud & Bearing Mount Adhesive or equivalent to the bolt threads or replace with new mounting bolts.
- Install the four mounting bolts (8) securing the support plate and spindle to the axle. Tighten the mounting bolts to 95 N.m (70 ft. lbs.).

- Attach the brake hose (3) routing bracket and clamp with the trailing arm (4) mounting holes. Install the two mounting screws (2, 5) and tighten them to 11 N.m (100 in. lbs.).

- On vehicles equipped with antilock brakes, install the wheel speed sensor head in the brake support plate. Install and tighten the mounting screw (3) to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.).

- Align the cable routing brackets with their mounts on the trailing arm (2). Install the two bolts (3) securing the cable and routing brackets to the trailing arm. Tighten the mounting bolts to 11 N.m (100 in. lbs.).

- Slide the hub and bearing (7) onto the spindle (10).
- Install a NEW hub nut (3) on the spindle. Tighten the nut to 217 N.m (160 ft. lbs.).
- Install the hub and bearing dust cap (4).
- Adjust the rear brakes as necessary. (Refer to BRAKES/HYDRAULIC/MECHANICAL/BRAKE PADS/SHOES - ADJUSTMENTS)
- Install the brake drum (6).

- Install tire and wheel assembly (1) (Refer to TIRES/WHEELS - INSTALLATION)
. Install and tighten wheel mounting nuts (3) to 135 N.m (100 ft. lbs.).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the vehicle has a firm brake pedal before moving the vehicle.
