Tie Rod-Outer: Removal

Raise and support the vehicle. (Refer to LUBRICATION & MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCEDURE)

Remove the wheel mounting nuts (3), then the tire and wheel assembly (1).

1 - INNER TIE ROD

2 - OUTER TIE ROD JAM NUT

3 - STEERING KNUCKLE

4 - OUTER TIE ROD END

5 - COLLAR

6 - INNER TIE ROD SERRATION

Loosen the tie rod jam nut (2). Thread the jam nut far enough up the inner tie rod (1) to pull the collar (5) away from the outer tie rod. Pull the collar off the end of the outer tie rod.

Remove the nut (2) attaching the outer tie rod (1) to the knuckle (3). To do this, hold the tie rod end stud with a wrench while loosening and removing the nut with a standard wrench or crowfoot wrench.

Release the tie rod end (1) from the knuckle (2) using Remover (3), Special Tool MB991113.

Remove the outer tie rod (1) and heat shield (4) from the knuckle (3).
