Gear Shift Cable: Removal

- Pull up on gearshift knob (1) with moderate force to remove from gearshift mechanism. See Fig 1.
1 - GEARSHIFT BOOT - Remove shifter boot/bezel (1) assembly from console by lifting up at mounting ring area. See Fig 2.
1 - CENTER CONSOLE - Remove the center console (1) assembly if equipped. See Fig 3.
1 - GROMMET PLATE NUT 2 - SHIFTER 3 - CROSSOVER CABLE 4 - CLIP - Remove crossover cable retaining clip (4) and disconnect from shift lever (3). See Fig 4.
1 - SHIFTER 2 - CLIP 3 - SELECTOR CABLE - Remove selector cable retaining clip (2) and disconnect from shift lever (3). See Fig 5.
1 - AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY - Remove air cleaner assy (1). See Fig 6.
- Remove battery hold-down clamp and battery. See Fig 7.
1 - BATTERY - Disconnect battery cables and remove the battery (1).
1 - BATTERY TRAY - Remove battery tray (1). See Fig 8.
1 - TRANSAXLE 2 - GEAR SHIFT CABLE BRACKET 3 - BOLT (3) 4 - CABLE ASSEMBLY 5 -CLIPS (2) - Remove cable retaining clips (5) and remove cables (4) from bracket (2). See Fig 9.
- Disconnect cables (4) from the shift levers at the transaxle (1). See Fig 9.CAUTION: Pry up with equal force on both sides of shifter cable isolator bushings to avoid damaging cable isolator bushings.
1 - CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD Remove converter heat shield. See Fig 10.
1 - CABLE ASSEMBLY 2 - GROMMET PLATE - Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Remove remaining grommet plate-to-floor pan screw (2). See Fig 11.
- Remove cable assembly (1) from vehicle.
