  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Remove air cleaner assembly (3). See Fig 1.

  3. Remove Power Distribution Center (PDC) from bracket. (1) Remove Air Cleaner/PDC mounting bracket (1). See Fig 2.

  4. Disconnect gearshift cables (4) from shift mechanism and bracket (2). See Fig 3. Position cables out of way.
  5. Remove gearshift cable bracket (2). See Fig 3.

  6. Disconnect back-up lamp switch connector (1). See Fig 4.
  7. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor connector (2). See Fig 4.

    2 - DISCONNECT TOOL 6638 A
  8. Disconnect clutch master cylinder hydraulic tube (1) from clutch slave cylinder using Disconnect Tool 6638A (2). See Fig 5.

  9. Remove transaxle upper bellhousing-to-block bolts.
  10. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  11. Remove transaxle drain plug (2) and drain into suitable container. See Fig 6.

  12. Remove halfshafts (1, 5). See Fig 7.
  13. Remove three intermediate shaft bearing-to-retainer bolts. Remove intermediate shaft/bearing assembly (4). See Fig 7.

  14. Remove two intercooler connector pipe-to-engine oil pan bolts (2) and position aside to access and remove oil pan-to-bellhousing bolt. See Fig 8.

  15. Position screw jack and wood block to engine oil pan.
  16. Obtain access to engine compartment. Remove two transaxle upper mount-to-bracket bolts (1). See Fig 9.

  17. Lower engine/transaxle assembly on screw jack.
  18. Remove transaxle upper mount bracket (2). See Fig 10.

  19. Position transmission jack to transaxle. Secure transaxle to jack.
  20. Remove starter lower bolt (2) with ground cable (1). See Fig 11.

  21. Remove four modular clutch-to-drive plate bolts (4). See Fig 12. While removing bolts, one tight-tolerance (slotted) drive plate hole (3) will be encountered. When this bolt is removed, mark driveplate and modular clutch assembly at this location, and be sure to align marks upon reassembly.

  22. Remove remaining bellhousing-to-block bolts (1). See Fig 13.
  23. Lower transaxle assembly (2) from engine/vehicle.
