Spindle - Rear Drum Brake Vehicles

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the wheel mounting nuts (3), then the rear tire and wheel assembly (1).
- Remove the brake drum retaining clips (5), then the drum (6). Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the dust cap (4) from the hub and bearing (7).
- Remove the hub nut (3), then slide the hub and bearing (7) from the spindle (10).
- Remove the two screws (2, 5) securing the rear brake hose (3) to the axle trailing arm (4).
1 - CABLE 2 - ARM 3 - FASTENERS - Remove the two bolts (3) on the axle trailing arm securing the parking brake cable (1) and routing brackets to the axle trailing arm (2).
- On vehicles equipped with antilock brakes, remove the screw (3) securing the antilock brake wheel speed sensor (2) to the brake support plate. Remove the sensor head from the brake support plate.
- Remove the four bolts (8) securing each brake shoe support plate (9), and spindle (10) to the axle (1).
- Move the brake support plate (9) outward, away from the axle. At the same time, loosen the spindle (6) from the axle and remove it from the back of the support plate.
