Diagnostic Test

  1. 1) CHECK POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE POWER AND GROUND 

    Refer to the Engine Electrical Diagnostics 1.6L and perform the symptom Checking PCM Power and Ground Circuits.

    Did the vehicle pass this test? 

    Yes 

    1. Go to step  2).

    No 

    1. Repair as necessary.
    2. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER 1.
  2. 2) SCI CIRCUITS SHORTED TO GROUND

    Turn the ignition off.

    Disconnect the scan tool from the DLC.

    Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module harness connector.

    Measure the resistance between ground and the (D223) SCI Transmit (PCM) circuit.

    Measure the resistance between ground and the (D123) SCI Receive (PCM) circuit.

    Is the resistance below 10.0 ohms for either circuit? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the SCI Circuit that measured below 10.0 ohms for a short to ground.
    2. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER 1.

    No 

    1. Go to step  3).
  3. 3) SCI CIRCUITS SHORTED TO VOLTAGE

    Turn the ignition on.

    Measure the voltage of the (D223) SCI Transmit (PCM) circuit.

    Measure the voltage of the (D123) SCI Receive (PCM) circuit.

    Is the voltage above 1.0 volt for either circuit? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the SCI Circuit that measured above 1.0 volt for a short to voltage.
    2. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER 1.

    No 

    1. Go to step  4).
  4. 4) (D223) SCI TRANSMIT (PCM) CIRCUIT OPEN

    Turn the ignition off.

    Measure the resistance of the (D223) SCI Transmit (PCM) circuit between the DLC and the PCM connector.

    Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Go to step  5).

    No 

    1. Repair the (D223) SCI Transmit (PCM) circuit for an open.
    2. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER 1.
  5. 5) (D123) SCI RECEIVE (PCM) CIRCUIT OPEN

    Measure the resistance of the (D123) SCI Receive (PCM) circuit between the DLC and the PCM connector.

    Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Go to step  6).

    No 

    1. Repair the (D123) SCI Receive (PCM) circuit for an open.
    2. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER 1.
  6. 6) (D223) SCI TRANSMIT (PCM) CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE (D123) SCI RECEIVE (PCM) CIRCUIT

    Measure the resistance between the (D223) SCI Transmit (PCM) and the (D123) SCI Receive (PCM) circuits.

    Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the (D223) SCI Transmit (PCM) circuit for a short to the (D123) SCI Receive (PCM) circuit.
    2. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER 1.

    No 

    1. Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information.
    2. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER 1.
