Diagnostic Test

  1. 1)  APP SENSOR BELOW 0.25 VOLT 

    Turn the ignition on.

    With the , read the APP Sensor No.2 Input voltage.

    Is the voltage below 0.25 volt? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  2).

    No 

    Go To step  10).

  2. 2)  (K854) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT

    Turn the ignition off.

    Disconnect the APP Sensor harness connector.

    Turn the ignition on.

    Measure the voltage of the (K854) 5-volt Supply circuit.

    Is the voltage between 4.5 and 5.2 volts? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  3).

    No 

    1. Go To  7).
  3. 3)  ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR INTERNAL FAILURE 

    With the scan tool, monitor the APP Sensor No.2 Input voltage.

    There is a pull-down resistor in the PCM load circuit that should pull the APP Signals down to approximately 0 volts when the connector is removed.

    Is the voltage approximately 0 volts? 

    Yes 

    1. Replace the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  4).
  4. 4)  (K29) ACCELERATOR SENSOR SIGNAL NO.2 CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND

    Measure the resistance between ground and the (K29) APP Sensor Signal No.2 circuit.

    Is the resistance below 100 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the (K29) Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Signal No.2 circuit for a short to ground.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  5).
  5. 5)  (K29) ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL NO.2 CIRCUIT SHORTED TO SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT

    Measure the resistance between the (K29) APP Sensor Signal circuit and the (K400) Sensor Ground circuit.

    Is the resistance below 100 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the (K29) Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Signal No.2 circuit for a short to the (K400) Sensor Ground circuit.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  6).
  6. 6)  PCM APP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT 
    NOTE: Before Continuing: Disconnect the PCM harness connector and check the related wiring terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.

    Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wire harness and connectors. Pay particular attention to all Power and Ground circuits.

    If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair. 

    Repair 

    1. Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - PCM/ECM/SKREEM PROGRAMMING) .
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  7. 7)  (K854) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND

    Disconnect the PCM harness connector.

    Measure the resistance of the (K854) 5-volt Supply circuit to ground.

    Is the resistance below 100 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the (K854) 5 Volt Supply circuit for a short to ground.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  8).
  8. 8)  (K854) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT OPEN

    Measure the resistance of the (K854) 5-volt Supply circuit between the PCM harness connector and the APP Sensor harness connector.

    Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Test Complete.

    No 

    1. Go To  9).
  9. 9)  PCM 5 VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT 
    NOTE: Before Continuing: Disconnect the PCM harness connector and check the related wiring terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.

    Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wire harness and connectors. Pay particular attention to all Power and Ground circuits.

    If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair. 

    Repair 

    1. Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - PCM/ECM/SKREEM PROGRAMMING) .
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  10. 10)  ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR SWEEP 

    Turn the ignition on.

    With the scan tool, monitor the APP Sensor Input voltage.

    Slowly press and release the Accelerator Pedal.

    Is the voltage change smooth as the Accelerator Pedal is pressed and released? 

    Yes 

    1. Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Replace the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
