Diagnostic Test

  1. 1)  APPS VOLTAGE ABOVE 4.8 VOLTS 

    Turn the ignition on, engine not running.

    With the scan tool in Sensors, read the APP Sensor Input voltage.

    Is the voltage above 4.8 volts? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  2).

    No 

    1. Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  2. 2)  (K852) 5 VOLT SUPPLY SHORTED TO VOLTAGE

    Turn the ignition off.

    Disconnect the PCM harness connector.

    Disconnect the APP Sensor harness connector.

    Turn the ignition on.

    Measure the voltage of the (K852) 5 Volt Supply circuit in the PCM harness connector.

    Is the voltage above 5.2 volts? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the (K852) 5 Volt Supply Circuit for a short to battery voltage.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  3).
  3. 3)  (K23) APPS SIGNAL NO.1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO 5 VOLT CIRCUIT

    Turn the ignition off.

    Measure the resistance between the (K23) APP Sensor Signal No.1 circuit and the (K852) 5 Volt Supply circuit in the APP Sensor harness connector.

    Is the resistance below 100 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the (K23) APP Sensor Signal No.1 circuit for a short to the 5 Volt Supply circuit.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  4).
  4. 4)  APP SENSOR SIGNAL NO.1 CIRCUIT SHORTED TO BATTERY VOLTAGE

    Turn the ignition on.

    Measure the voltage of the (K23) APP Sensor Signal No.1 circuit in the APP Sensor harness connector.

    Is the voltage above 1.0 volts? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the (K23) APP Sensor Signal No.1 circuit for a short to battery voltage.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  5).
  5. 5)  ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR SWEEP 

    Connect all connectors.

    Turn the ignition on.

    With the scan tool in Sensors, monitor the APP Sensor Input voltage.

    Slowly press and release the Accelerator Pedal.

    Is the voltage change smooth as the Accelerator Pedal is pressed and released? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  6).

    No 

    1. Replace the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  6. 6)  PCM APP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT 
    NOTE: Before Continuing: Disconnect the PCM harness connector and check the related wiring terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.

    Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wire harness and connectors. Pay particular attention to all Power and Ground circuits.

    If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair. 

    Repair 

    1. Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - PCM/ECM/SKREEM PROGRAMMING) .
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
