Diagnostic Test

  1. 1)  GOOD TRIP INDICATOR  
    NOTE: Before continuing visually inspect the throttle blade and bore for any obstructions. Repair as necessary.

    Turn the ignition on, engine off.

    With the scan tool, read DTCs.

    Does the Good Trip Indicator display NO? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  2).

    No 

    1. Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  2. 2)  THROTTLE POSITION WITHIN 2° DEGREES OF DESIRED THROTTLE POSITION 

    Start the engine.

    Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.

    With the scan tool in Sensors, monitor the ACT THROTTLE POSITION and ETC TPS SET POINT.

    Compare ACT THROTTLE POSITION and ETC TPS SET POINT.

    Is the ACT THROTTLE POSITION within 2° degrees of the ETC TPS SET POINT? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  3).

    No 

    1. Replace the Electronic Throttle Control Assembly.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  3. 3)  ETC OPERATION 

    Turn the ignition on, engine off.

    With the scan tool, actuate the Electronic Throttle Control Motor.

    NOTE: It may be necessary to use a mirror to see the throttle blade.

    Observe the throttle blade.

    NOTE: Ensure the motion of the throttle blade is smooth and that it open and closed fully.

    Did the ETC motor operate properly? 

    Yes 

    1. Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Replace the Electronic Throttle Control Assembly.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
