Diagnostic Test

  1. 1)  COMMUNICATION WITH GATEWAY

Using the scan tool, attempt to communicate with the Gateway Module.

Can communication be established with the Gateway Module?

    Yes

    1. Go To  2).

    No

    1. Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING for diagnostic procedures and for further possible causes.
  2. 2)  SHORT TO GROUND

    Turn the ignition off.

Measure the resistance between Ground and the PCI Bus circuit at the Data Link Connector.

Is the resistance below 100 ohms?

    Yes

    1. Repair the short to ground in the PCI Bus circuit.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No

    1. Go To  3).
  3. 3)  INTERNAL CONTROLLER SHORT TO GROUND

    Turn the ignition off.

Monitor the short to ground on the PCI Bus circuit at the DLC.

A wide range of fluctuation in the resistance value may indicate BUS activity. It may be necessary to wait for all modules to sleep (stop communicating) in order to get an accurate reading.

Disconnect the Airbag controller, Cluster, RKE, SKIM, Radio, Side Air Bag Module, and the PCM, one at a time, disconnecting the PCM last.

If the resistance never changes with all of the controllers disconnected, there is a short to ground in the harness.

Does the resistance change from below 100 ohms to above 100 ohms when disconnecting any module?

    Yes

    1. Replace and reprogram the specific Control Module that is causing the short to ground in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - PCM/ECM/SKREEM PROGRAMMING) .
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No

    1. Repair the short to ground in the PCI Bus circuit.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
